March 2014 will bring along with it several changes for the 16th annual Smoky Mountain Weekend. The most noticeable will probably be our move to the new LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge. It is located just behind Walgreen’s on Teaster Lane, just south of The Island. Even at over 230,000 square feet, the LeConte Center will still not be big enough for us to fit all of the classes into one location. However, all classes will be within a mile and a half radius and not spread out across the county.
Next, you might notice a slight name change. With the new location, new vendors, course offerings, and new instructors, some coming from FDIC, we felt that we needed to let people know that the weekend is not only for fire fighters, but also rescue personnel. So, it is now “The Smoky Mountain Weekend Fire/Rescue Expo.”
We have brought the Fire Chiefs’ Development course back to the same weekend. Coupled together with the lower student fees for 2014, we hope this will help you and allow you to make SMW the annual one stop training event for your department.
We are offering one-day classes for 2014. You will be able to choose which one-day classes you would like to pair together to make it a full training weekend, or if you can’t make it on Saturday or Sunday, just take a one-day class of your choice on the day that you can make it.
This year we have rolled out online registration where you will be able to pick your class choices, register, and then pay online by credit card. You can also register online and then **mail in your check. Just be sure to choose that option under payment type.
