I'd like to get everyone's feedback on the following:

The New York City Mayors Office and the 911 Memorial have excluded the 9/11 First Responders from the Tenth Anniversary Memorial at Ground Zero on September 11, 2011, citing there is only space to accommodate family members.

The Mayors office and 911 Memorial has said that any First Responder wishing to share in the memorial can feel free to visit Ground Zero any day after September 11, 2001.

No contingency plans where made to accommodate the thousands of First Responders expected to attend. What are your thoughts and feeling?

Wow! At first read I immediately became upset, but then I thought about it. Why not let the families have this moment for themselves? This day their loved ones were so brutally taken from them. I do understand brothers and sisters that were lost that day and we would like to mourn them and remember them as well, but I think the mayor is making it all about the family and I don't have a problem with it.
Yeah but why couldn't they set aside at least a few hours on the 11th tho .. even if later in the day / eve.
I thought about that too Janet, but again my question, why not make it about the family on that day? Maybe the mayor is making it all about the family as far as the ceremony goes and once the official ceremony is over, the first responders will get a chance to pay their respects.
F--K THE MAYOR!!!!!!!!! Thank You
AMEN!!! LOL!
No! I'm going to reach out on a limb and really stir the pot. In all the planning and dpreparation for marking ten years of one of the most devastating events to ever occur, they didn't anticipate that the first responders of NYC are a family and many losses (although not blood ties) were like losing brothers and sisters.

Heck, push some of the dignitaries and press aside and give due respect to one of the largest families to suffer a loss.
I agree with you Ken, my crew IS my family and if the families had control over the memorial I'm quite sure the first responders would not have been left out. But you and I know this is a political move by the mayor, if it wasn't, Rudy would have been involved and it all would have been done fairly. But it's not fair and first responders are resilient, proud people and we don't need no stinkin' political ceremony to mourn the loss of our brothers and sisters. Especially New York first responders, when have they ever needed a ceremony to grieve for the losses suffered by all of us.

Keep stirring that pot Ken. LOL!
Fry...I think it stinks. They deserve much better than that. It was their comrades, friends and buddies that died that horrific day, rescuing us, regular folks like us, most who didn't make it either. These fine firemen, and police deserve a whole lot better than what goofy Bloomie is doing for them....
I want to take a moment to follow up. I agree the families need time to mourn and have a venue to honor their loved one and perhaps find some closure. Having said that, the NYC Mayors office should have anticipated the tens of thousands of First Responder who “Gave So Much For So Many” on September 11th and made arrangements for them to attend the memorial, show their respects and honor those who made the supreme sacrifice. People don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan! That is what I believe happened here. The City of New York claims there is not enough room at Ground Zero to accommodate everyone that wants to attend this includes the First Responders. Nevertheless, the city continues to find space to accommodate all the Politicians and Dignitaries.

Although I'm not a first responder myself, And I agree that this memorial should be for those who lost family on that horrible day - I think if you asked the people who lost family that day they would overwhelmingly agree that the members of the Fire , Police, and EMTs should also be included because they unconditionally risked their lives to save as many people as possible.

Remembering the events of September 11th , 2001 is as much about them as it is the families of the people who lost their lives that day.

If ANYONE should be eliminated from the memorial grounds it should be the politicians and so called dignitaries who sat by and did nothing , the same ones who dont see anything wrong with considering letting a mosque be built near the WTC site but won't agree to allow the christian churches near ground zero be repaired or rebuilt- and ever since have done everything they could to sugar coat the evil that happened that fateful tuesday in the name of.....healing.

My opinion is that I'm sick of politicians missing the point of what a memorial or even a memorium is supposed to be - It's not about how many people they can impress with how much they appear to care, it's not about how much press coverage they can get, and it sure as hell isn't supposed to be a springboard for their next election. It should be about the people of NY and the rest of the USA who lost Family, Friends, Comrades, and brothers in Arms.
My group that is marching down from Yankee Stadium at midnight will go through the barriers. Those are our brothers and sisters we lost down there that day. I lost family there myself, but I would never tell my colleagues that they can not attend a memorial service to honor our fallen. As I said b4, FUCK THE MAYOR and these politicians
Don't mistake what I previously said. I agree that the first responders should also be there to mourn and remember those who were murdered on that awful day and those who are still suffering the effects, either mentally, emotionally or physically. However, I still say, let the families get theirs first! Most of which shares a bloodline with those who were killed. I'm all about having a silent march up to ground zero to show a strong first responder wall of respect and memorium. New York's mayor cannot stop that or have to plan for it. Just showing up and making our presence known will let him, the politician and the so-called dignitaries know that we are all family and we still have the backs of our brothers and their families.
