It's not that police don't like them, police is thinking about your safety. Some watch groups take it among themselves to capture the criminal rather than just calling the police. Then there are those criminals who sees someone on patrol and that person becomes an opportunity for the criminal. Then let's say the one on patrol is a concealed carrier and defend themselves, then you have a whole other drama playing out in your neighborhood. I suggest having a plan the law enforcement community can live with. Work with them, what could it hurt? Also, they can possibly help you in ways you have not thought of and/or point you to funding resources. How about getting a retired law enforcement officer to head the effort? Just a thought.
