City of Colorado Springs

The City of Colorado Springs, Colorado is a municipal corporation and a home rule city duly organized and existing pursuant to Article XX of the Constitution of the State of Colorado and the Charter of the City of Colorado Springs. The City is the 40th largest city in the United States and is enjoying historic achievements on many fronts. This position will provide prosecution services for the City as part of a team of prosecuting attorneys in the City Attorney's Office. More information about the City is available at www.coloradosprings.gov.
 
This attorney will be a part of the Colorado Springs City Attorney's Office – Prosecution Division. Prosecutors prosecute City Code violations before the Municipal Court, advise City departments regarding prosecution issues, appear in administrative hearings regarding City business licensing violations, and initiate/defend municipal prosecution appeals before applicable appellate courts. This attorney is expected to assist on related legal matters for other divisions of the City Attorney's Office when requested.

This attorney will prosecute municipal violations before the Municipal Court, render legal advice to staff on prosecution matters, initiate/defend appeals from Municipal Court decisions, and represent the City of Colorado Springs in administrative proceedings brought pursuant to City business licensing provisions, administrative enforcement provisions, liquor code, and marijuana code provisions. Knowledge of criminal and administrative law, rules of evidence, applicable rules of procedure, applicable case law, federal and state statutes, and City ordinances is helpful. This attorney must possess a working knowledge of the Colorado Municipal Court Rules and state statutes regarding municipal courts, criminal law, and traffic enforcement. The attorney in this position must be able to analyze, interpret, and apply legal principles, facts, evidence, and legal precedent. The attorney must also possess superior oral and written communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills and the ability to work as a successful member of a team of attorneys representing the City in all its many functions.

Ideal candidates will also demonstrate:

Experience which demonstrates excellent research, writing, academic, and oral/written communication skills.
Work experience in a prosecution office or a comparable work environment.
Experience with administrative law, including a familiarity with the Colorado Liquor Code and related regulations/case law.
Knowledge regarding electronic case management systems.
 Relevant Background and Formal Education:
Juris Doctorate or Bachelor of Law from an ABA (American Bar Association) accredited law school.
 
Admission to the Colorado Bar.

Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.
 Additional Information:
