From FCC Cybersecurity & Communications Reliability Division Public Safety & Homeland Security Bureau as of 9-Apr-2020:
Recently the Federal Communications Commission (Commission) proposed to share Network Outage Reporting System (NORS) and Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) information that the agency collects from service providers, with eligible federal and state government agencies.
The proposal is to establish a framework for sharing this presumptively confidential information with state and federal agencies to improve their situational awareness, enhance their ability to respond more quickly to outages affecting their communities, and help save lives, while also preserving the confidentiality of this data. The Commission welcomes all comments to the proposal.
The deadline to file comments with the Commission is April 30, 2020, and reply comments is June 1, 2020.
To read more about the proposal, review a 56-page PDF copy of the Second Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (FNPRM) (FCC 20-20) in PS Docket No. 15-80.
Comments may be filed electronically using the Commission’s Electronic Comment Filing System, please see pages 23-24 of the FNPRM for additional information. In addition, interested parties may make ex parte presentations following the Commission’s ex parte procedures, which are contained on pages 22-23 of the FNRPM.
