It Could Be You

Summer heat can bring wildfires. If you live in an area where they are common, there are steps you can take to minimize damage.

The best thing you can do is use fire resistant building materials. If this isn't possible, be sure to remove flammable materials, such as leaves, from your roof and store gasoline away from occupied buildings.

I agree, I was a NY State Fire Instructor for 17 yrs. and I myself kept learning doing things easier and some of the equipment that some of the volunteer companies had we never had at the Base fire dept.  Learning is good especially in the Fire Service.

Comment by Jeff on July 12, 2019 at 12:38pm

Sorry to hear that Bob. I believe that the any training we can offer our members is better for the whole department not just the members that take the class, because they can share that knowledge with the rest of the membership. Knowledge is power and if we stop learning or refuse to share what we do know then we will never grow or improve our tactical abilities. That could end up killing people. In the 20 plus years I've seen and learned new ways of doing things they might be different or subtle changes in the way we do our jobs and may shave only minutes off of a technique but minutes is what saves lives again we should never stop learning. Once we reside ourselves to a point that we don't need to learn anymore then that might be the time we should  consider retirement, that's just my opinion.

Comment by Bob Allard on July 12, 2019 at 7:51am

Ah , OK, when I was a Federal Firefighter several of us want to take the course and this way we could deploy if needed, but the head Fire Chief at HQ. said that he would not authorize it for us so that ended that.

great video Jeff ~ thanks for sharing!

July 11--California fire officials this week published a dramatic video documentary showing glimpses inside the chaotic and lethal first few hours of last fall's Camp Fire from the perspective of the firefighters who rushed in.

I think Frye should go into Wildland FF
It would be like save the Gators instead of save the whales.

But then I'm from Alabama and the tide washed up the Gators on shore last year.
