Awesome post Brian! Good Job! It would be nice to be able to help fire and law enforcement personnel who can't physically perform the same duties they had while on the job, but can still offer other skills to those who would like to hone or enhance…

" Salvation Army "

When I deployed to the Gulf Coast to provide disaster relief after Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, I was impressed with the actions of the Salvation Army in both Biloxi, Mississippi and Beaumont,Texas. After Rita struck, I responded as a member of the Red Cross and was assigned to the South Texas State Fairgrounds in Beaumont, where the command center was located and disaster operations established. Large quantities of food, clothing, hygiene products and medical supplies would come in fro… Continue

" Developmental Disabilities "

Throughout history, people with developmental disabilities have been viewed as incapable and incompetent in their capacity for decision-making and development. Nothing could be further from the truth. With modern advances in adaptive and medical technologies, the differently-abled members of our society are leading healthier, more fulfilling lives and enjoying a longer life expectancy. I like to use the acronym TAB "Temporarily Able-Bodied," as a reminder that many people will develop disabiliti… Continue

" Keep Firefighters On The Job "

Keep firefighters at work

Becoming a professional firefighter was a dream come true, as I relentlessly pursued this vision until it manifested itself in reality. When I first interviewed for the job I was told that it wasn’t a lucrative occupation, was physically and psychologically stressful and hard on marriages. The Chief stated that the reward comes from saving a life and serving the community. I… Continue

" Getting Older "

I passed the 50 year watershed in 2007 and have been reminiscing ever since. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and do it over, absent the mistakes, but I know that I can't. I'll hear a classic song on the radio and it immediately transports me back in time to the place that I was when I first heard it. I wish that I could get in one more grueling, screaming, marathon weight training session with my friend Ray Wilson. He passed away much too young and is sadly missed. I would love to have… Continue

" Fire Service Retirement "

Being a professional firefighter for the past 28 years has truly been a blessing and I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to serve others...the greatest calling in life. I gave everything that I had to give, mentally, physically and spiritually. I strived to be the best that I could be, holding nothing back in reserve. It's hard to describe the terrible images etched in your mind after years of witnessing repeated gruesome scenes. It makes you realize how precious and fragile life real… Continue

Thank you Brian and glad to be aboard. I am currently considering writing a book about coping with homicide while moving on with your life. Since my daughters murder in 2004, I have worked with many families of homicide victims. I have found that some people can move on and some seem to be stuck on the day of their loved ones death and cannot move forward. I know because I was there for awhile after my daughters death. The good news is that as survivors of violent crime, we can move forward. I want to be able to help the people who are struggling in the healing process. I feel I can reach out to alot of people if I write a book. I also work with these families on a one on one basis in this area. They don't realize how strong they truly are and everybody's journey is different. Anyway, that is just part of what I do. Thanks for listening. Have a great Thanksgiving and God bless.
