NY union bans firefighters from volunteering

City firefighters have been banned by their union from working as volunteers in communities where they live.

The order, effective Feb. 1, is aimed partially at shielding taxpayers from covering costs of a firefighters hurt while volunteering.

The union's president, Sam Fresina, couldn't say Monday exactly how many members of the department the order would affect. But he said it was less than half of 75, the number that has been circulated.

Shiny New Engines and Training Stuff

I showed up early for our weekly drill last night and I'm glad I did ! First of all a salesman from the Pierce Dealer was there and brought one of their new pumper models to show off. This particular engine was a pumper about 32 feet long. It was equipped for both water and foam. The panel was oriented like a side mount panel, by high like atop mount panel. Good BYE 2008....oh God let 2009 be

New Ignition Lock Laws Aim To Stop DUIs

Motorists convicted of driving drunk will have to install breath-monitoring gadgets in their cars under new laws taking effect in six states this week.
