For 9/11 Team, Haiti Brings It All Back

Michael Appleton for The New York Times

A member of a New York City search and rescue team looked for an entry point at a collapsed building in Port-au-Prince.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — A pile of rubble is a pile of rubble, whether it is Lower Manhattan or central Port-au-Prince. As a New York rescue team combed the wreckage of last week’s earthquake in search of long-shot survivors on Monday, some said one particular past disaster — the collapsed World… Continue

Another Soldier dies in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — More than a thousand soldiers saluted Sunday as a Canadian infantryman described as a father figure to his men was given a sad send-off.

Pallbearers slowly carried the casket of Sgt. John Faught to an awaiting transport plane for his final trip back to Canada.

Faught 44, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont, was killed Saturday by a roadside bomb in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar province.

House Fire-All are Safe.

A home in Lower Prospect suffered “significant fire damage” this morning.

Platoon Chief Mike Blackburn said fire crews got the call at 7:17 a.m. and when they arrived found smoke pouring from the back of the home on Lower Prospect Rd.

“I wouldn’t say the house is a total writeoff … but there was significant fire damage,” he said.

The fire chief said there were people at home but they got out without injury.

The cause of the blaze was still undetermined.

“That’s being… Continue

The Winter Driving and Tires

Well its Friday 2010 and the snow here is coming down pretty good, maybe not as much as where my wife's sister lives in Scotland as they had about 10cm before Christmas and now its doubled and they are talking about running out of salt/sand for the roadways, that is not good if all the snow states know what I mean, the driving becomes worst then with the salt/sand, this would shut them down for quite some time as they are not use to getting alot of snow, I believe they may get about 2 - 3… Continue

Paramedic's House Burns- Family is safe

Most stories we post here on the site will often touch our hearts, but often we dont know the victims or person thats related to the story. Sadly, this post is about a wonderful Paramedic in my community. He is also my friend and saved my life back in 2003 while rushing me to the ER. He has had a rough year personally and it would seem this New Years hasn't brought him any relief from bad luck. Good point tho, they all were safe from the fire. They did lose everything tho that they owned.… Continue

The Power of Blood Belongs to Donors

ASBP Thank YouThe list is… Continue
