Wanna Listen to the Radio?

I just wanted to pass this on to the members here. I use to listen to a scanner when I lived near the coast of NC. It was kind of cool. I knew the 5 or 6 sheriff that patrolled the county. That's correct. There were usually only two of them on duty per shift. Imagine trying to patrol an entire county with two people.

Most of the fire safety were volunteer. I was thinking about getting into that myself. Then moved so that never happened. I still enjoy hearing what's going on out… Continue

Critics call fire utility fee another tax

One of Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett's more controversial ideas for raising money is a fire utility fee, similar to EMSA's opt out fee. At $5 a month, the program is expected to raise $6 million.

"Anytime you hear the word fee, spell it t-a-x, because that's what they're doing. This is a tax increase," said Dan Hicks, who has been a vocal opponent of tax increases for years.

Hicks says he won't pay the fee, even if it means he'll be charged for any fires at his house. Under… Continue

Halifax fire chief, deputy sue for access to The Coast's commenters

It seems in a world where internet is the key communications to most news and discussions, that many feel safe, hidden and capable of saying whatever they want to. Its not right that such people get away though with saying abusive and threatening things. Recently in Nova Scotia, a local new magazine The Coast has been dealing with such situation. Ultimate shame

In a weak and shameful attempt to appear as a hero, a volunteer firefighter lit a fire in a stairwell that lead to apartments above a coin operated laundry room. In Lawrence, NY., Caleb Lacey charged and convicted with arson murder and sentence to 25 years to life. He intentionally lit the fire in the only entrance and escape route as the previous fire escape had been removed from the building some time ago. A mother and her 3 children were… Continue

At a meeting held in Albuquerque's City Hall Wednesday morning, union presidents from the city's police and fire departments submitted their proposals to city council to help tackle a projected $66 million budget shortfall.
