Memorial Day

Monday, we gathered at Holy Family Church for our 75th Chicago Fire Department Memorial Day Parade and Mass. The weather broke perfectly and Sun dried the streets for the parade.

This is a special time. A good number of retired firefighters and paramedics come to talk to their friends and catch up on each others lives. The younger members will sit and listen as stories of fires and rescues of Chicago's past are told and retold. They are not only interested in the stories, but of… Continue

Memorial Day Fire Claims Home Of Former Marine

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A suspicious early morning fire consumed the Bithlo home of an elderly veteran Monday.

Orange County firefighters were dispatched around 2:45am after receiving several calls from residents in the area.

When they arrived at the scene on 2nd Avenue, they found a 1200 square foot mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

RELATIONSHIPS AND ME

The kind of relationships I'm concerned with here are described by Webster as “romantic or passionate attachments.” I've had many. Most of them have failed. By failed I mean they ended – usually badly. So what is a successful relationship? I would define it as ‘until death do us part' as long as you don't murder the person with whom you are having a relationship. That does happen.

According to that definition, I've had at least 10 failed relationships and 3 successful…

"Bored" Woman Arrested For Allegedly Setting Fires In Cocoa

COCOA, Fla. -- An accused arsonist was arrested Thursday after she set a small fire, because she was bored, investigators said. Police were dumbfounded by that reasoning.

Residents at a Cocoa apartment complex, allegedly caught Margaret Jean Kaderabek trying to set a fire just feet from a huge, dry wooded area. They believe she set as many as four different fires before police tracked her down.

It's hard to understand what was going through the 56-year-old… Continue

PALM BAY, Fla. -- Channel 9 learned new information about the man accused of starting small fires in Brevard County. Wednesday night, fire officials said 31-year-old Brian Crowder admitted to starting fires and even said he started fires as a diversion when he was trying to escape police.

Detectives said Crowder is an unusual man. Crowder had a criminal history with six outstanding warrants for violation of his probation. The lead arson investigator said that Crowder…

Arson Suspect Arrested By Palm Bay Police Officers

PALM BAY, Fla. -- A 31-year-old man may be connected with all the pain, heat and heartache caused by the worst wildfires in Central Florida in 10 years. Police said Wednesday they caught an arsonist.

A resident alerted police after seeing 31-year-old Brian Crowder allegedly throw an object from his car that sparked a small fire in the woods, Palm Bay Detective Ernie Diebel said. The object was a glass bottle containing an accelerant, Palm Bay Police Chief Bill Berger said. The…

BREVARD and VOLUSIA COUNTIES, Fla. -- Damage estimates for wildfires that burned through Palm Bay approached $10 million, Tuesday. Meanwhile, firefighters in Brevard County were racing to contain a blaze that shut down I-95.

BREVARD and VOLUSIA COUNTIES, Fla. -- A series of wildfires roared to life throughout Palm Bay, Monday afternoon, burning homes, threatening a school and covering the area with a thick blanket of smoke. Flames crept up to the edges of homes and schools and firefighters made dramatic stands to save the structures.

Can You believe This One ?

We had a case in the Houston area the other day that even seasoned law enforcement officers are having a hard time believing. The other day two juveniles were arrested after they dug up a body at a local cemetery. They then allegedly decapitated the corpse, and used the skull as a bong to smoke marijuana. The original investigating officer said the whole story was so absurd that he didn't even belive it until he located and interviewed the second suspect.

Anybody else ever hear of… Continue
