TBI: The Injustice of Judgements

Judgy-ness as we call it in our house. My adult children hate it when I become frustrated by judgements made towards me when I can't express myself correctly through spoken words. They hate it when I am finding joy only to be brought down by someone put off by my joy in each day. I AM joyful and there is a joy in each of my days I've probably never felt. This joy seems to be something absolutely new in experience. I choose not to pick at it too much with questions of new? not new? is this real?… Continue

PTSD Growth: You Are Not Alone in This

Lift me up, hold me up, watch my back. Those phrases have been running through my mind in a neverending refrain. It's as if they are a puzzle I can't quite put together enough to see the entire picture. This morning I participated in an ongoing Periscope daisy chain of encouragers. The idea is to keep each other going, to honor their process even if they are not at the same point. Each person is at a different level of fitness and as each person finished they watched the next person go at it.… Continue

PTSD Growth: The Fence Straddling Woman In Uniform

**Post is Long containing possible triggers**

Fence Straddler, Wanna be, Badge Bunny, Lesbian, Dyke. I've been called all these things and overseas was called Hose Humper, Hose Rider and worse ones I can't even type or say out loud. Being a woman in a world dominated by men was not the easiest of paths to choose. Coming into it seemingly late in life after a former career and just over a decade of Motherhood didn't help. No one ever asked me what I did before I became a mother to… Continue

PTSD/TBI: The Turbulent Path of Healing

It's funny in some ways I had this idea inside my mind that healing was this place I was heading to and when I got to the destination I'd be...well, I'd be done. But what I'm finding out along the way is that's a fallacy, it's an untruth. Hands down it's an ongoing progress, one with surges of amazing healing of the Traumatic Brain Injury where everything snaps back into place. My eidetic memory slams into view and it's a breathtaking moment. But healing, it's a path of moving forward at a slow… Continue

TBI: Gotta Keep Moving Forward

I'm on the treadmill moving forward and yet really seeming to go nowhere. Sometimes I think the treadmill is a wonderful metaphor for the idea of heading nowhere whilst giving the illusion of moving forward. It's actually a great tool for getting to a place of moving continually forward. Moving to the place of acceptance of 'where I'm at is where I'm at' and I'm moving forward in the slow, steady way to win the day in my own life.

Having conversation along the way helps the… Continue

PTSD: Becoming My Own Hero

"just approach it like you're talking to friends." great advice gifted to me this morning by the most lovely woman. It made me start thinking about friendship, what is friendship? I know I've not been a good friend in the past. I'd be this great friend for a period of time, fun, spontaneous and loving to a certain point. I can look back now and see it's related to time of the year, the one holding the most bad anniversaries, and the passing of months time. Then I would just cut the friendship… Continue

PTSD: Acceptance

(personal journal entry)

It's the dark of the morning before dawn even peeps over the horizon. I'm woken up by something I still have yet to identify but am beginning to wonder if this is what has contributed to my insomnia. I look at the time and although it's early I've had a good 6 hour stretch of sleep so it's okay to give in and get up. I turn on the light and there's my faithful companion stretched out under the blanket we often share. I've never had a big dog who was so fond… Continue

TBI: The Dog I Was Not Meant To Keep

Today I am stiff in body and I have to remind myself this is not pain, it is from exercising two days ago. For a split second I feel frustration at having to remind myself. I stretch and breath deeply, something I can finally do. I open the window see the chain hanging down and think yet again "I've got to get a hummingbird feeder to replace the one that got broken." Then I remind myself I've been saying this for several years and it is not a new thought.

The dogs are doing their… Continue

Firefighters help waitress after she pays for their meal.(Great job Brothers..!)

DELRAN, NJ (ABC via Pathfire) - Two firefighters from New Jersey have been trying to raise money for a waitress, and her sick father, after she treated them to breakfast one morning. Those firefighters finally met the woman's father face to face with a big surprise.

Lives were unexpectedly drawn together by Liz Woodward's now famous act of kindness while working the overnight shift at the Route 130 diner in Delran.

"All I did was pay for their breakfast and I didn't think…

PTSD: The Lure of the Dark Tunnel

It's unexpected this lure. I wonder if the opening to the solace of the darkness within the tunnel will always be in my peripheral vision. Will it ever move out of my sight or will it linger on the most outer edges where I can easily ignore it for a while? The moment something causes emotions to rise, anger always rising fastest, the opening to this tunnel comes sharply into my focus. I pause to contemplate the opening in the midst of the unsettling emotions. It would seem to be a strong lure,… Continue
