U.S. Fire Administration Kicks off Public Fire Safety Campaign On Home Smoke Alarms and Residential Fire Sprinklers

The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) today launched an effort to encourage everyone to install and maintain home smoke alarms and, if possible, sprinklers. More than 3,000 people die in home fires each year, and the majority of them have no working smoke alarm. To prevent these deaths, the USFA, a division of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is sponsoring the nationwide Install. Inspect. Protect. Warrior Care: Scuba Diving - Equal Parts Rehab, Adventure

Thursday afternoons, as the majority of the work force on Fort Belvoir is getting ready to head home, Army Management Staff College professor Addelier Guy heads to the pool, where he takes off his tie and puts on scuba gear. Boy Saves Family With Smoke Detectors-Hagerstown residents are eligible for free smoke alarms.

Firefighters are crediting a Hagerstown boy with saving his entire family, by doing exactly what he learned in school.

Alonso Jimenez learned about fire safety when he took a trip to the Children's Safety Village of Washington County.

When he came home and checked his family's smoke detectors, he discovered they didn't work.

He hounded his parents to get new ones, and nine months after they did, his house caught fire.

Patrick Frazier escapes S.C. Dept. of Corrections on Wire Road

Patrick Frazier, 22, is wanted for escape from the South Carolina Department of Corrections minimum security institution on Wire Road at 11:50 p.m. Thursday.
