TBI: Multitasking and My Former Life

I want it all back. I want all of me back. My brain is healing and I feel unsettled, desperate inside to discover what gifts are still hidden in my brain. I am desperate to uncover them, bring them into the light. Emotions are still out of reach and considering the edge of my temporal lobe was hit I'm lucky to have any emotions and I do have understanding about that.

It is as if there are veils between me and my memories. I can see the person I had been, how none of those memories… Continue

TBI: And Then I Cried

Morning breaks and I'm already up, letting dogs out. The sun peeks over the horizon with fingertips of color streaking through the clouds. Breathing deeply I fill my lungs with the crisp morning air and stretch my arms towards the sky. For these moments I am calm inside myself. I watch the dogs wandering around doing their business. I whistle and they turn, then run to me to come inside where it's warm.

I workout, live streaming it while pushing my body to it's limits. Treadmill,… Continue

Christmas Day and I'm O.K.

The wind stings my face, rain feels like shards of ice and my chest is so tight I feel as if I cannot breathe. Fog surrounds me, blinding me and I am afraid I will lose the path. I am afraid I will fall. Fear blossoms in my chest and I no longer trust my feet to find the path I've run a million times. Instead of slowing I kick hard and push forward.

Behind me is the sound of feet hitting the ground in rhythm with mine and my adrenaline kicks into overdrive pushing me harder, faster… Continue

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Well first of all I have to say had a bad year on hunting never got a deer but saw all kinds of them on our trail cameras and yes I saw about 6 total in the woods live if you know what I mean not in my distance during bow season and shot-gun nothing at all. I am sure there are a few of you say "Good" but that ok with me.

We do not have any snow at my house as I sit here and write this Blog. I am happy with that as we do seem to get buried. That's alright with me that we are going to…

Did I Get What I Deserve?

Did I get what I deserved?

There is a song running through my mind and it disturbs me to the depth of my soul. "All the way down we go, way down we go....do you dare to look them right in the eyes because they will run you down until you fall....until you can't crawl no more..and way down we go" (Kaleo)

It unsettles me, reminds me of that dark space, the darkness which surrounded me in the midst of my pain. The darkness where I fell so hard that I could no longer crawl,… Continue

Love Undoes Us

Love undoes us.

Love is perhaps the most seemingly out of reach emotion after PTSD slithers into our lives.

Society, families, friends tell us we are loved only and only if we are 'owned' in some way by another person. Perhaps it is by the labels:

Husband

Wife

Partner

Significant Other

Girlfriend

Boyfriend

Fiancé

Lover

These terms represent a change in our personal status, it means someone loves us enough to make… Continue

The Loss of the Littlest Life

**Caution, description of deceased infant call***

Some calls never leave you no matter how many years have gone by.

November 2004

With each strike of my foot on the pavement I breathe, counting 1,2,3,4,5 and out 5,4,3,2,1. I'm in the zone where I feel as if I could run forever. My legs start feeling numb and I know I need to stop and walk. The need to push almost overrides me and as I slow to a walk I feel dizzy and want to sit down. My hands go over my… Continue

The Need

**Contains Descriptions which may not be safe for work and may trigger relapse**

The inner stillness had become my drug of choice. I needed it, craved it to please, please! silence my mind's constant noise and memory pictures. It rolled over me, consuming me until I no longer thought anything at all. Caught up in the excitement of the moment which later became neverending moments. I'd crossed a line in my search to quiet the memories, to quiet the awfulness of what… Continue

Rediscovering The Super Hero Within

Each day my body regains strength. My brain heals slowly in leaps, bounds, then slow set backs before healing some more. Each day I gain dominion again over my body and I feel as if I am finally finding control within my life in an out of control world.

All that I am at this moment is discovering the strength I have as a woman. Empowerment of self through the reading and discussion broadcasts for Women Who Run with the Wolves is an exciting journey I've embarked upon. The self…

LIfe Smashes Down

(also published on lifebeyondptsd.wordpresss)

        Life smashes in, literally.

Last Saturday we had an ice storm and along with this was the usual neverending cracking of breaking limbs. However this time was different. Our trees which have survived numerousice storms gave up the fight and half of both trees came smashing down. One on video when I was letting my PTSD-companion dog outside. She darted back inside in the midst of peeing and the enormous limb… Continue
