Richland District Community Emergency Response Team

Richland CERT was formed by myself in 2010 after the great flood of Nashville. Nashville Office of Emergency Management has been traning CERT team members for many years but for some reason those on West side of Nashville had never formed a team. In the flood of 2010 we lost several of our neighboros on my side of town. Any number was unacceptable! I contacted the Office of Emergency Management for the names of those in West Nashville that had already completed the training and organized the…

Olympic Dreaming

Hey Gang,

Some thoughts on the Olympics this month:

Over the past couple of weeks I've spent a bunch of time watching the London Olympics. I'm sure most people would agree with me when I say the unreal athletic ability displayed by the men and women competing there is sometimes hard to comprehend as it's so far above what the average person can do. Yes it would have…

Lifting weights

Hey Gang, some fitness thoughts for this month, be safe.

One of the most common questions I get about working out is about lifting weights. "Do you lift weights"? Or just do calisthenics? The answer is yes and yes. I do lift weights and highly recommend them for those looking to get into top condition. However my views on the best way to train with weights has changed a lot over the years. When I was younger I had dreams being a huge body builder like Arnold. I saw Pumping Iron at least…

Case Law

Does anyone have or know of any place where I could find some case law pertaining to fire departments or firefighters getting involved in a lawsuit for being gross neglect or that was free-lancing and someone got hurt and filed a lawsuit? The reason I as asking is so that I could inform some fire departments that are responding to calls just because they have heard it on the scanner or their radio and they are responding without being toned out or paged out. The management seems to think…

firefighters workers compensation claim denied over line of duty grey area (a must read for volunteers

Colchester, Vermont - July 5, 2011

Jason Stech is getting pretty good at zipping around the fire station on crutches. A month ago he was injured on the job. He expected recovery to be tough, but the legal battle caught him off guard.

"I think we were all under the impression you get hurt and you're taken care of, your family's taken care of," Stech said.

This volunteer firefighter from Colchester is learning the hard way that there's a loophole standing between… Continue

Radioactive safety data

Okay .. I'm not trying to be an alarmist and this is just my personal opinion but .. posting this as fyi in case things completely go south with Japanese nuclear reactors. Hopefully officials can contain all since structures have multiple safeguards, but sharing this in the event a complete failure or meltdown could potentially impact the west coast of North America. (Please note, I'm not talking about anything released to date .. there are no concerns with that whatsoever. Just thinking worse… Continue
