Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving - meaning the driver's BAC is .08 or higher

Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving and Will Not Be Tolerated

• Impaired driving is one of America’s most-often-committed and deadliest crimes. Overall in 2005, 16,885 people died in alcohol-related highway crashes. Of those, nearly 13,000 were killed in crashes involving a driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.

• The holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year’s…

Driver Hits Fireman, Truck At Scene Of Accident

This situation took place at our neighboring county:

A Marianna resident was detained by Calhoun County authorities Christmas Eve after he struck a fireman and a fire truck, and then fled the scene. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Richard F. Bouch II, 29, was driving south on County Road 167 in Calhoun County at 12:13 a.m. when he came upon several emergency vehicles parked in the northbound lane with their emergency lights on.

Tis the Season – Be Aware and Be Safe

The holidays are now upon us. This is the time of season where families often gather together, people are out and about shopping for gifts, the malls and grocery stores are packed, and the excitement swells. This is also the time of year when thieves try to take advantage and look for opportunities to strike and make your holidays miserable. I’ve been a victim in the past. It was as quick as someone running past me in the mall and snatching my packages out of my hands that I just… Continue

1941 attack on Pearl Harbor far from forgotten

Harold O'Connor, 88, was a Navy Fireman First Class on the USS Thornton, a destroyer seaplane tender, in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked.

"All the torpedo planes were coming right off our fantail," O'Connor recalls. "I watched the West Virginia go up from two torpedoes that were dropped. All hell was breaking loose. I saw the bombs that hit the Arizona."

That's just one of O'Connor's World War II stories from the Pacific. The Hawaii man… Continue

Chaplain’s faith helped him through ordeal of 1999 fire

In the spring of 1962, the Rev. Peter J. Scanlon, then a curate in Southbridge, received a letter from Bishop Bernard J. Flanagan informing him that he was the new assistant fire chaplain for the Diocese of Worcester.

“The bishop wrote that he thought I might be the guy for the position,” said Rev. Scanlon, who would become the diocese’s chief fire chaplain when the Rev. James Kelly moved on to other duties. “To this day, I’m really not sure how he came to that… Continue

Multi-Million Dollar Fire Station Opens

The city of Orlando officially opened its brand new 60,000 square foot fire station and department headquarters Wednesday.

However, many have questioned the need for some of its amenities, like 12 flat screen televisions, stainless steel appliances, granite light fixtures and a $1,300 mailbox.

Dyer defends the pricey multi-million dollar building. He says it costs more than the average fire station because it serves as the main headquarters and it's a green… Continue
