Vast areas to the southeast of me are flooded. Nothing near that bad around here. The biggest remaining problem around me is most people are still without power. I told my wife earlier we must be truly blessed. The last 24 hours have been as if Hell opened up around us, and yet we are fine.
I have family of one sort or the other in several parts of town. So you can see things through the eyes of at least one family here's the run down of where we stand.
My daughter and grandson were still without power or water late in the afternoon, so they evacuated to Papa and Mimi's house. They arrived just before 6pm. My sister-in-law north of town described conditions there as "like a war zone." They have no power, and were working to pick up fallen tree limbs etc. My sister, her family, and my mother on the east side of town have no power, but do have a generator. They are otherwise doing well. The condition of my mom's house is unknown at this point. This house is the one we grew up in so of course it is very special to my brother, sister, and I.
The Balinese Room a very famous (formerly infamous ) night club down on Galveston Island was totally destroyed. It dates back to the 1940's if I remember right. This was a bit of a bummer to my wife and I since we have been there.
All in all those close to me have come through this much better than I had feared. I thank God for seeing my family through this. Now I turn my attention to praying to him for those much less fortunate. Of course high on my prayer list are my fellow first responders who will be very busy around here into the indefinite future.
Stay Safe !
