Many people think of how brave first responders as being brave, and this is one of our most common qualities. At the same time I also often remind people how generous responders are.
Today is an excellent illustration of this. While everyone else is unwrapping presents, and hugging grandma, we stand watch. We sacrifice part of our holiday so others can have carefree enjoyment of theirs. So long as we do so they will never completely understand what we have done for them. We being who we are, don't care. We do what we do not for the notice or recognition. The bible tells us that love is about what you do, not what you say. We do what we do because we love our neighbors and communities so much we could not do otherwise.
As you go about your duties this Christmas know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. May God richly bless you for who you are and what you do. Merry Christmas, and may you experience every blessing the new year has to bring.
