Last night at our Mayor's invitation I was able to give the invocation at city council meeting here in Katy. It was my first appearance as fire department chaplain at something other than a department event. It went well in fact the C.E.O. of our local chamber of commerce commented to me after the meeting about what a good invocation I gave. The Mayor was grateful thanking me profusely many times.
It also gave me a chance to congratulate our city's new chief of police. I hadn't seen him since National Night Out when he was was just a mere ASSISTANT Chief of Police. We talked briefly about my ministry, and I made it clear that just because I'm in the Fire Department doesn't mean I'm not available to the members of his department as well. He and I seem to share the same "one team" view of emergency services in our city.
Even before last night the mayor indicated that this will probably be a fairly regular thing. It seems like a good thing for my department and my city so I hope it works out that way.
