Dallas college football bowl game renamed the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl

13-Aug-2018 - DALLAS – In a joint effort to honor the service and sacrifice of America’s First Responders, the annual college football bowl game played at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas has been renamed the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl.

Kickoff for the newly christened SERVPRO First Responder Bowl is set for December 26 at 12:30 p.m. CT and will be televised by ESPN.

"We are truly grateful for all first responders’ sacrifice and service,” said Brant Ringler, Executive Director of the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. “It is a tremendous privilege to honor these brave men and women who protect our communities 24/7/365. As this game continues to grow, so do our ties with first responders. Additionally, having a sponsor like SERVPRO who works along-side and supports these community heroes reinforces our goals of recognizing our first responders.”

"We are proud to present the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl dedicated to honoring some of the hardest working men and women in our country" said Sue Steen, CEO of Servpro Industries, Inc. "We recognize the dedication and selfless acts of our First Responders and are honored to help highlight and celebrate the commitment of these everyday heroes."

The 2018 SERVPRO First Responder Bowl is the ninth edition of the bowl game, formerly known as the Heart of Dallas Bowl, and part of the 89-year history of games being played at Cotton Bowl Stadium on the grounds of Dallas’ Fair Park, which features 227 acres of museums, attractions, history, art and performances located in the heart of the ninth largest city in the United States.

First responders to be honored include police officers, firefighters, EMS workers, correctional officers, search and rescue, dispatchers, security guards, federal agents, border patrol agents and military personnel who have specialized training and are the first to arrive and provide assistance at the scene of an emergency.

“This is an exciting change, and we are humbled by the fact that an actual bowl game has been named exclusively for the first responders of this country,” Dallas Fire-Rescue Fire Chief David Coatney said.

“We are truly honored to have a bowl game here in Dallas named after the hard working men and women serving and protecting communities across this country.  It always feels great to be recognized, and I know our officers and firefighters are touched by this overwhelming show of support," said Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall.

=====

As of 15-Sep-2018 tickets are now on sale for the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl game scheduled for 26-Dec-2018 (teams TBD).

First responders can claim up to four complimentary tickets to attend this year's bowl game. Each year the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl (formerly Heart of Dallas Bowl) provides thousands of free tickets for first responders, through the generosity of our corporate partners, to attend the bowl game with their families. In case you missed it, yesterday's SERVPRO First Responder Bowl game made history since it was the first bowl game ever cancelled due to severe weather.

Boise State and Boston College played for about 10 minutes Wed before the game was delayed. Lightning strikes near Cotton Bowl outdoor stadium continued intermittently for 3 hours after the initial delay, and more storms were expected.

There were major storms thru D/FW metroplex all aft/eve and we were under Tornado watch until 4a here in east TX just a few hrs away so was a good call. Sad they couldn't delay it until today ~ sunny and gorgeous, but teams had return flights booked, etc.

ICYMI - Boston College Eagles and Boise State Broncos will be playing in the 2018 SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. The ninth edition of the bowl game will be played Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Cotton Bowl Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. CT and the contest will be televised by air on ESPN.

“We’re extremely excited to announce Boston College and Boise State as the two programs playing in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl this year,” Brant Ringler, executive director, said. “Congratulations to both the Eagles and Broncos for their terrific seasons. This promises to be an outstanding matchup at historic Cotton Bowl Stadium. Fans from both programs are in for a special time in Dallas.”

Boston College (7-5, 4-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) is headed to a bowl game for the 27th time in its history. The Eagles are 14-12 all time in postseason play, which includes a 36-30 victory over Maryland in the 2016 Quick Lane Bowl. It is the team’s first bowl game in Texas since the 1985 Cotton Bowl.

Boise State (10-3, 7-1 Mountain West Conference) is headed to a bowl game for the 19th time in its history and 17th straight year. Boise State is 12-6 all-time in postseason games after a 38-28 win over Oregon at the 2017 Las Vegas Bowl. The league runner-up Broncos are ranked 25th in the final College Football Playoff Ranking.

Remember ... Dallas/Fort Worth area responders can claim up to 4 free tickets each for the 26-Dec-2018 game. Order tickets online or call 1-888-795-3722 for assistance.
