DALLAS, Texas, June 27, 2019 – On September 11, 2001, global chaos ensued as the World Trade Center Towers came crashing down, and the fate of airline passengers en route to America was literally thrown off course.
When 38 planes carrying 6,500 individuals arrived at Gander, Newfoundland, the eastern-most point of North America, the small Canadian town came together to host a group of strangers who would leave as family.
YOU ARE HERE, from award-winning producer Peter Gentile, will show in 700+ U.S. movie theaters as a one-night event on September 11, 2019.
Gander, Newfoundland, is a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic, and as the closest North American land to Europe, it has welcomed strangers who have “come from away” – as they call their visitors – for centuries.
However, the Gander citizens had never rallied together so quickly as they did on 9/11, when thousands of passengers arrived not knowing what had happened to New York during their flight or where they had landed to find safety.
During those five days after 9/11, when national air travel remained on lock down, the people of Gander showcased the best in humanity. They united together as a community to not only give these strangers a place to stay, but to welcome them with love and generosity as if their unexpected visit had been joyously anticipated.

While their stories inspired an extraordinary Broadway hit musical, Come From Away, the documentary, YOU ARE HERE, offers first-hand accounts of the great kindnesses and energetic resourcefulness the community showed their unexpected guests. Their emotional and sometimes humorous stories of compassion and generosity, born of a long history of rescuing and welcoming shipwrecked sailors, resonate with a legacy of healing and reconciliation for the world - especially for the survivors of those murdered on 9/11 and for the first responders who lost their own lives saving others on that fateful day.
YOU ARE HERE will be shown in movie theaters across the U.S. from Fathom Events on September 11, 2019.
YOU ARE HERE, produced by Peter Gentile of M.D.F. Productions Inc., has been recognized with multiple awards including the 2019 Best Documentary Program and Best Picture Editing Documentary by Canadian Screen Awards; the 2018 Audience Choice Best Documentary by Cinefest Sudbury; and the jury prize from BANFF World Media Festival.
