Profile Information

About Me
#320 with Buford Volulnteer Fire Department. Have been firefighting for 6 months overall and with Buford for 3. Great dept with a great group of people. I love being on the dept and hope to gain more knowledge and training. I heard it said the other day that you don't decide what you're going to do in life, you discover it through God. I would say that that's how I found firefighting.

I have no ambition in this world but one

and that is to be a fireman.

The position may in the eyes of some

appear to be a lowly one;

But those who know the work

which a fireman has to do

Believe his is a noble calling.

Our proudest moment is to save a life.

Under the impulse of such thoughts

the nobility of the occupation

thrills us and stimulates us

to deeds of daring

even of supreme sacrifice.

Man, it's been a while

Posted on October 6, 2008 at 3:15pm 1 Comment

It's been forever since I've been here. I'm still volunteering at Buford and they have sent me to EMT-B school so that's been keeping me pretty busy. Getting ready for midterms on the 14th and clinicals are coming up too! Will be working at the school's health checks tomorrow doing vitals for extra credit.

Just a quick update

Had my appendix taken out Wednesday at 0700. Went to the e.r. via ambulance. The paramedic that took me in was my fire chief. They were able to do it laproscopy so I have 3 cuts. I'll put some pics up… Continue

Going back to school!

Posted on April 14, 2008 at 5:17pm 0 Comments

I just applied online to the local college. The fire commission has agreed to pay for me to go to EMT school! Classes start August 20th. I'm excited to be going, but the thing that sucks is that classes are Tuesday and Thursday nights. Our fire meetings are on Thursday nights. I will still get credit for training; but I like being at the dept. Oh well, the class only lasts a semester.

A first responder helps one of the crash victims.

My last blog post was about possibly being able to participate in the 'Last Dance' reenactment at the local high school. I did get the oppourtunity and it was great. I didn't make the actual paper but was in the online photo gallery of the event. I wanna encourage anyone who gets the chance to participate in this to do so; it is great, and really has the potential to make an impact on someone's… Continue

Last Dance

Posted on April 2, 2008 at 6:00pm 1 Comment

For those unfamiliar with it 'Last Dance' is a demonstration put on by high schools with the goal of preventing drinking and driving on prom night. They set up 2 or 3 vehicles and occupy them with student 'victims'. One of which will be playing the part of a drunk driver. Other organizations involved include the city police department, state police, city fire department, local hospital, air evac, and funeral home. Two 'victims' will be dead and one will be airlifted. There… Continue
