About Me
My story is probably like a million others. When I was 3, living in the City of Buffalo, NY, we saw a lot of smoke and could hear the Q sirens coming towards us. We lived with in 1 1/2 miles of Engine 31 and Truck 14's house and knew if they were coming near us or headed away. So we headed toward the smoke and two blocks away found a small rubbish fire next to a gas station. I know, wow a rubbish fire! But seeing the Brothers get off the engine and truck, pull a line and do everything together, joke about the fire and and two guys from the truck, one with his hand on the shoulder of the other, showed that this was a very tight knit house. I told my mother, "I'm gonna do that some day." Then when I was 16, I lost two friends, more like sisters to me... during an accident in a bad snow storm. And they had been drinking, then driving. Two dead at the scene. One so critical that she had to go to the closest hospital with massive head injuries. and the second to the trauma center. When both died, I was mad. I swore the fire dept and medics didn't do enough or do it right. So when I turned 18 I joined the fire dept. After a lot of digging and meeting guys from the house that responded to the accident. I found they really did do it all right and that 16 FF's ended their tenure as firefighters due to what they saw that night. And some of these guys had up to 22 years in a very active Volly house, that was no stranger to severe and deadly calls. So that's how I started.
