The Sheriff’s Mounted Posse was formed in October, 2011, and Larry Donaldson has been a dedicated volunteer since its inception. As most of you all know, Larry retired from our agency last July after 35 years of dedicated service. Even though he is retired, he has volunteered countless hours with the Mounted Posse.
He has attended all of the Posse events, some of which include the Sheriff’s Office Youth Week, the Crestview Veteran’s Day Parade, Niceville’s Christmas Parade and the Baker Rodeo. He has lifted countless children and ponied them around on horses at numerous community events.
Larry gets along well with all members of the Mounted Posse and has been a great asset. He is always one of the first to volunteer for whatever needs to be done. The community interaction with the Mounted Posse has been very well received thanks to Larry and the members of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse.
I invite you to attend the NEMA 2015 Mid-Year Emergency Management Policy & Leadership Forum March 13-17 in Alexandria, Virginia. Our annual gathering in our nation's capital is an excellent opportunity to share best practices and shape the future of emergency management so that we can best meet the needs of our individual and collective stakeholders.
We will use this opportunity to review our organizational structure and finances to ensure that we are well positioned to meet the needs of the membership currently and for years to come. We will also be discussing and making recommendations on the programs and relationships that allow us to meet the needs of survivors before, during, and after disasters. A number of new colleagues will be joining us for the first time, and this will be their first chance to receive training to help them understand their role their respective state or territory and the nation as a whole. Finally, with the many changes that occurred during the last election cycle, this is our chance to engage our legislators as a group and help them understand the role they can play in preparing our nation for future disasters.
We continue to advance the profession of emergency management, and our meeting in March will be another step along that path. We will hear from our federal partners, state and local colleagues and private sector counterparts on how we can work as a team, improve practices and save lives and property when disasters strike.
A great deal of information and education will be shared and gained during this forum and I hope you will all attend and bring your own issues and experiences to discuss.
