U.S. First Responders Association is a non-profit, network of firefighters, EMS, rescue, police officers, military and civilian support teams. The purpose of the United States First Responders Association shall be to advance the profession of fire, emergency, police and military services through proactive community leadership, education, advocacy, policy, procedure, and guidelines that would best help our emergency services provide aid to the citizens of the United States and worldwide, as well as form a closer bond of fellowship between its members with our focus primarily on: Training, Tactics, Safety, Education and Community Outreach.
A PTSD healing devotee, I am now a Self-Empowered Healing Coach helping survivors make the shift from powerless to powerful so they can achieve their recovery goals.. As a mental health advocate, public speaker, blogger, writer, workshop/seminar leader, Professional Life Coach, Certified Hypnotist, and Certified Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, I use my personal experience, education, professional training and research to help others make progress on their quest for freedom.

A couple of months ago I decided to launch a book club for survivors wanting to take control of the PTSD recovery process. I figured, we all spend so much time reading and educating ourselves, might as well do it together!
For our first meeting we read THE BETRAYAL BOND, by Patrick J. Carnes, Ph.D. The book was very enlightening about how exploitive relationships can create trauma bonds -- chains of trust that link you to someone who is dangerous, abusive and toxic.

Those struggling with PTSD often (although not always) also find themselves struggling with addictive behaviors. My own PTSD symptoms and journey involved an addiction to an eating disorder — for 20 years! I know how tough it can be to recognize, admit and change destructive addictive behaviors.
