Temporary System Maintenance May Delay Approval of AFG Payment and Amendment Requests
AFG, SAFER, and Fire Prevention Grantees
Please be advised that the Integrated Financial Management and Information System (IFMIS) and the Payment and Reporting System (PARS) will be undergoing temporary maintenance from Wednesday, May 8, 2013 to Tuesday, May 14, 2013. During this time, grantees may submit payment and amendment requests as usual, but the AFG will not be able to process them. These systems should be back to normal and the processing of grantee requests should resume by Wednesday, May 15, 2013.
Please submit requests for any urgently needed payments or amendments as soon as possible to avoid experiencing a delay during this maintenance period. If you have questions, please call the Customer Service Center at 1-866-927-5646, or email ask-gmd@dhs.gov. We apologize for any inconvenience this outage may cause.
AFG, SAFER, and Fire Prevention Applicants
Fewer grants will be awarded during the period of system maintenance, from May 8 to May 14, 2013. Regular weekly award announcements will resume after the maintenance period ends. To check on the latest award announcements, go to the AFG website at www.fema.gov/firegrants.

Faces of Fire: Firefighter 
Shane Daughetee died in fire at home built with engineered wood
On January 26, 2007, Jim and Linda Daughetee experienced a parent's worst nightmare when their only son Shane, a 24-year-old volunteer firefighter, died at a home fire after falling through the floor which was supported by engineered wooden I-beams. Without warning, the floor collapsed sending him into the basement. Crews attempted to rescue him from the fully involved basement, but a subsequent collapse of the main floor ceased further rescue efforts. Lt. Elliot Mahaffey suffered burn injuries in his attempt to save him.
Firefighter's Wife Needs Your Help!
Matt Frezza has been a volunteer fire fighter for at least five years and comes from a family of fire fighters. He was the lead fire fighter on the crew in DTVFD and is a dedicated family man. All extremely good folks. He and Christina have been married 11 years this September.
She has lung cancer in her right lung which had resulted in removal of a large portion of it and is currently going through radiation as a precautionary measure in case the mass removed wasn't sufficient. He is working in lawn care and with the healthcare reforms their end costs have left them deeply in debt.
