Memorial Day

Hello All,

Well, this is Memorial Day weekend, and we all go and drink a few beers and spend time with family and friends, cooking hot dogs and hamburgers. But the real meaning of Memorial Day is to observe a day of remembrance in the United States to honor and mourn those who have died while serving in the U.S. military, both in peace and during times of war. It's a solemn day to reflect on their sacrifices and remember their service to the nation.

Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day has evolved over time. It started as a way to decorate the graves of fallen Civil War soldiers with followers. Now, it's a national day of remembrance, with many people visiting cemeteries and memorials and placing American flags on graves. The U.S. Department of Defense notes that it is also a day to mourn with families of those who have died in service.

Memorial Day, a federal holiday held on the last Monday in May, is the nation's foremost annual day to mourn and honor its deceased service men and women. Originally called Decoration Day, it was formalized by a "Memorial Day Order" issued by Grand Army of the Republic Commander-in-Chief John A. Logan in 1868.

So let's all take a moment of silence to mourn our loss,

Bob Allard
